Distance learning used to be the kind of story told in low voices and behind covered mouths. Back then not many people believed in its principles. Today, thanks to the Internet, distance learning is quickly becoming mainstream. It’s only a matter of time before classroom-based courses take second stage to distance education.
Many universities and college these days have their own brand of distance learning courses and programs. As a student, it’s your job to figure out which distance learning program will work out the best for you in the long run.
There are two things you need to consider.
The first thing, and perhaps the most important, is the school’s reputation. A distance learning program is only as good as the university offering it. Visit the school, talk to alumni, and research the school’s distance learning program record - these things will help you make up your mind.
The school’s grasp of educational equipment is another matter. Does the course employ a mix of instructional technology? Are you going to be using video conferencing, e-mails, and other web-based delivery systems? It won’t take a genius to figure out that the distance learning program that uses high-end technology is most likely the better choice.
Have fun picking the right distance learning program for you.
