You figured you could work and study at the same time if you settled for distance education. The college and distance learning course has already been decided. In your case, distance learning through regular mail correspondence works better for you, since you don’t have regular Internet access anyway.
Distance learning courses are different from one school to the other by how the lessons are delivered to the student.
Modern distance learning courses are divided into two distinct groups: synchronous and asynchronous. Synchronous distance learning makes use of telephones, video conferencing and web conferencing as its methods of delivery. Asynchronous distance learning is more varied, with lessons being exchanged through e-mails, audio cassettes, message board forums, voice mails, video cassettes, fax and print materials.
Some distance learning courses use both synchronous and asynchronous methods.
Here are some more examples of different types of distance education courses:
• Broadcast/Telecourse - the content is delivered via television or radio
• CD-ROM - lessons are stored and sent to the student in a CD-ROM
• Mobile learning - the student interacts with the lessons viewed through a wireless server or on a mobile device
Be sure to discuss these methods very carefully with the admissions officer before enrolling in the school’s distance learning course.
