A friend sends you an email saying he heard you were interested in taking up long distance learning. He attaches on the email a list of universities and colleges that offer long distance education. But don’t just jump in that easily. First you need to check, is your long distance learning college accredited?
A long distance learning college is any educational institution that offers long distance tertiary education. It is important that the distance learning college is accredited by your state or country’s education board, or else you might run into some trouble about it in the future.
Why is distance learning college education important?
• It gives assurance that you’ll attain, as a distance learner student, the same quality of education as you would from standard classroom-based programs.
• It gives you the same rights to orientation, admission, counseling, registration, financial aid, placement, tutoring and other student services available to all other students.
• A distance learning college isn’t eligible to government student assistance programs if it is not accredited.
• Employers who are kind enough to provide tutoring assistance might not reimburse your tuition of they find out your school isn’t accredited.
Long distance learning is no longer an issue these days. The real issue is: are you studying under a real distance learning college. And if it is, why isn’t it accredited?
